Interested in printmaking, graphic design and the visual arts? If you want to try your hand at letterpress printing, then come along to the Moveable Type Studios ‘Ink & Drink sessions. This October, November and December Clint Harvey and Dzintra Menesis will introduce you to letterpress printing using wood type and vintage print items from the MTS mobile printmaking container studio.
Introducing our artists in residence Mark Pei and Dzintra Menesis, both Mark and Dzintra incorporate lino and wood blocks in their art practice. They will discuss the exciting opportunities they have encountered combining contemporary illustration with block printing while incorporating letterpress wood type into their print works.
If you are an emerging artist/designer or a seasoned professional and are keen to talk, connect and print, this social gathering is a great way to break the ice and get your hands dirty in this unique mobile traditional Letterpress Studio.
And if you are interested in getting your hands really dirty Dzintra will be running a two day lino block printing workshop at the the MTS container in late November. Learn how include letterpress type with lino blocks, and discover new ways to build colour using, type, and traditional materials.
When the ink’s drying, we’ll sit, have a chat and a cold beer.

Explore the art of wood type and letterpress printing in this hands-on workshop with design educator Clint Harvey. This workshop is a great introduction to setting and printing wood type, you will get have the opportunity to print from these 100 year old type blocks, use a pica rule and a compose a typographic forme, mix ink, and operate a historic press. Set, proof and print multiple copies of a short typographic composition.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is the studio wheelchair accessible?
Yes, The Moveable Type Studio is wheelchair accessible, however please keep in mind that a 40 foot shipping container is a relatively confined workspace.
What health and safety aspects do I need to consider?
Fully enclosed shoes, long hair tied back, no jewellery on wrists or fingers, no hanging sleeves, please keep in mind that your clothes may get ink on them!
Weather considerations
Because the studio is in a 40 foot shipping container, we’re at the mercy of the weather gods! Sometimes we will need to reschedule events and bookings subject to the weather
